According to the Sacramento Bee, a Red Flag warning has been issued through the weekend for the Sacramento Valley and parts of the Bay Area. And to help avoid another fire, PG&E might shut off power to parts of nine counties. This would be an even bigger planned power outage than the one that occurred last month.

That planned outage lasted three days and cut off power to around 60,000 people. If PG&E shuts off the power this week, it will impact 69,000 customers. “What we’re doing is in the interest of customers and the safety of customers, and only as a last result during extreme weather conditions,” said spokeswoman Kristi Jourdan.

The nine counties affected are:

  • Butte
  • Lake
  • Napa
  • Nevada
  • Placer
  • Plumas
  • Sierra
  • Sonoma
  • Yuba

The utility company says it is monitoring the weather. If there is a power outage, it’s not certain how long it would last.
