Relatively short, that is. Last year, WalletHub ranked El Dorado Hills as the best place to raise a family in California. This year, the city moved down to number five and Folsom moved up to take the top honor. I mean, they DO have Sweet Dozen Cones there so it makes sense to me.

Factors that were considered in the study include number of attractions, quality of the school system, housing affordability and the unemployment rate. When it came to affordable housing, these cities ranked best: Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Elk Grove, Rocklin and Roseville. Which, let’s be honest, I still can’t afford a house in any of them. Whomp whomp.

Here’s where the rest of our NorCal cities came in:

  • No. 10: Roseville
  • No. 12: Elk Grove
  • No. 13: Rocklin
  • No. 28: Davis
  • No. 35: Lincoln
  • No. 44: Fair Oaks
  • No. 57: Antelope
  • No. 64: Orangevale
  • No. 87: Woodland
  • No. 100: Rancho Cordova
  • No. 104: West Sacramento
  • No. 126: Sacramento
  • No. 127: Carmichael
  • No. 142: Citrus Heights
  • No. 242: North Highlands

What do you think—Folsom really is the best place to raise a family?
