Animal lovers rejoice! California just passed a new bill to become the first-ever state to ban all animal-tested cosmetics.
If any skincare, makeup, or body care product tests on animals, it legally can no longer be sold in California. Considering how immensely huge of a market the state is for such products, this could be a real game changer.
California News: 4AM Bar Bill Passes California State Senate
If bill SB 1249, which was unanimously voted on by California legislators, is signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown, it’ll go into effect on Jan. 1, 2020. According to PEOPLE, the bill officially states:
“Notwithstanding any other law, it is unlawful for a manufacturer to import for profit, sell, or offer for sale in this state, any cosmetic, if the cosmetic was developed or manufactured using an animal test that was conducted or contracted by the manufacturer, or any supplier of the manufacturer, on or after January 1, 2020.”
There are already plenty of cruelty-free companies that are thriving in the market like Kat Von D Beauty. It’s likely that many others will follow suit in order to get profits out of California.
