After Carrie Underwood announced a severe fall last autumn, many wondered how bad the damage was. The singer said that she broke her wrist and had facial scarring.

When Underwood finally showed her face after months in the dark, fans noticed that she looked… exactly the same. The story got so big that even talk show host Wendy Williams accused the country star of faking an injury to cover up for plastic surgery.

“I’m on some magazine every other week for something crazy. It’s a little sad, because the truth is just as interesting,” Underwood said to Redbook. “I wish I’d gotten some awesome plastic surgery to make this [scar] look better. But I try not to worry too much about it. My mom will be like, ‘Did you see they are saying this about you?’ And I’ll be like, ‘Mama, I don’t care. I’m just trying to raise my son and live my life.'”

Though many say that it’s almost impossible to see any difference in her face, the “Cry Pretty” singer admits she still feels self-conscious about it. However, she learned through this whole process that people don’t sweat the small things as much as you think they will. She also encouraged other young women to never stop searching for their self-confidence.

“The first thing I would tell them is that we’re all insecure; that’s just called being human,” she continued. “I feel like the most important thing to realize is that even people who seem to be super confident have insecurities that they are dealing with. Honestly, you just do the best you can. Don’t worry about things you can’t change.”
