I fully believe that Turkey Tom in Davis is my spirit animal. He’s cranky AF and likes to mess with people. But while I love, I don’t think I’d ever be brave enough to feed him. However, apparently some residents or visitor have been giving food to the turkeys, squirrels and ducks in Davis. So, what’s the big deal with that?

When it’s all said and done, they are wild animals. And you shouldn’t feed wild animals because they get used to it and get a little aggressive about getting food. Think about all the bears in Tahoe that enter people’s homes and cars in search of food. Once they’ve had human food, they want human food. I mean, you’ve had an In N Out burger—after having that would you want to eat leaves and grass. So, the city is considering an ordinance to fine people who feed the wild animals according to CBS 13.

There is a community meeting in Davis tonight to address the issue. As it stands, they’re planning a $100 fine for the first feeding offense. Repeating offenders could pay up to $500 if the ordinance passes.
