In an attempt to slow down speeders and protect cyclists, Sacramento is cutting J Street down to two lanes. This area is one of the busiest for commuters during rush hour. Especially because many use the ramp between 20th and 30th to get on I-80.

Additionally, the city hopes the slim down will help boost sales for businesses in the area. Plans for the update include moving the bike lane over further to the right. Then, having a parking lane as an additional buffer between traffic and cyclists, according to KCRA.

Adam Kringel commutes via bicycle and said the current stretch of J Street is “pretty much the scariest leg of my commute.”

The city said the impact won’t be as bad for traffic as people thing, per ABC 10.
