I don’t know about you, but I think this is awesome! Some Sacramento police officers have been taking American Sign Language courses.

Police Sgt. Lisa Maneggie told KCRA, “We want cops to learn basic ASL skills to help the deaf community in an emergency.”

Of course, six weeks isn’t enough to learn full ASL. But, the officers now know important signs like help and police. Additionally, members of the deaf community recently practiced skills with the Sacramento police officers.

One resident, Collin Hillenbrand, said “seeing the cops volunteer and wanting to take the class…is amazing. In a real emergency…they have a better understanding when they’re called,” he added.

In total, around 20 Sacramento officers voluntarily took the six-week course.
