People’s opinions are certainly falling on a spectrum about a mom’s decision to charge her 5-year-old daughter rent.

In an effort to teach her daughter about financial responsibility, Essence Evans, the mom, detailed how she gives allowance. Every week, Evans gives her daughter $7, then asks for $5. Evans does so to prepare her daughter about the realities of how a paycheck distributes in real life. Most people end up giving up the majority of their pay to rent. Evans’ daughter gets to keep $2 every week to go towards whatever she chooses.

The $5 that Evans receives back from her daughter is going into a savings account. Her daughter will see the accumulated money again when she’s 18.

Some completely agree with Evans’ choice, while others think it’s adding unnecessary stress to a kid, reports The Penny Hoarder.
