What is wrong with a plain ol’ hot dog? A little Dijon, maybe some relish, possibly some cheese and a warm steamed bun..? Heaven. But, some people are never happy with good enough. Case in point?

Peanut butter hot dogs.

Yep. Somewhere, someone came up with this, and somewhere, someone actually ate one, declared it good, and a new food fad was born.

If you’ve got the…er…guts to give it a try, here’s the recipe, as posted by the food site CountryCleaver.com.

4 All Beef Hot Dogs

4 Hot Dog Buns

4 Slices Bacon

1 Shallot, sliced thinly

1/2 cup Smooth Peanut Butter

1/4 cup Mayo, optional

1/2 cup Shredded Cheese

Prepare bacon in skillet until cooked through and crispy. Drain on paper towels and when cool enough to handle, chop into small pieces.

Preheat grill and cook hot dogs until 160 degrees through. While dogs are grilling, slice shallot, and shred cheese.

To assemble, toast hot dog buns, top buns with mayo, hot dog, slather each dog with peanut butter, topping with shallots, cheese, and bacon. Serve immediately.

And, I would add, have either a bucket nearby or at least a Costco package of Tums. Good luck!
