In times like this, it’s important to remember that the overwhelming number of law enforcement officers are good, caring people vastly outnumber those who aren’t. Every day they put on their uniform, they can never say for certain they will return home. And sometimes, far too often, they don’t (nationwide, 134 in 2017).

Which is what the Police Ride For Unity is all about. The 4 day, 300 mile cycling event is the 2nd week of May–National Police Week–on a route from New Jersey to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC. The ride features hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the country, each riding on behalf of a fallen comrade.

One of those riders is a friend of mine, Deputy Travis Thornsberry with the Placer County Sheriff’s department. Travis is riding for the Placer Sheriff Police Unity team in the name of Michael Louviere, an officer from Louisiana who was gunned down while off-duty and trying to help in a domestic violence situation.

Each rider needs to collect a minimum of $2000 by April 11th and as you can imagine, fundraising can be a little difficult if you don’t have boxes of delicious cookies to sell.

So, if you’re so inclined, there are two ways you can help out Travis and/or his team.

Way #1) Attend this fund-raiser at Crooked Lane Brewing in Auburn on Friday March 30th from 4-9

Way #2) Donate to Travis’ personal donation page by clicking here

I just did it…it’s easy. Plus, you can see if your employer will match your donation. So if you can help and have a couple minutes, on behalf of Travis, thank you!
