Sacramento Is Getting A New Area Code

Starting in March, there will be a new area code in Sacramento. But don’t worry, your number will only change if you add a new line.

Apparently phone carriers are almost out of 916 numbers. So, they are introducing a 279 area code into the mix beginning March 10. While this only affects people getting a new number, it does change something for landlines.

If you have a landline, you will have to dial 1+the area code starting this Saturday. You won’t have to worry about the 1 from a cell phone though, just the area code.
