It looks like thousands of kids can add school to their summertime plans. Because the Sacramento district is instituting mandatory summer school for students according to CBS 13.

$3 million has been invested into the new Expanded Learning Summer Program. The aim of the program is to help students struggling in core classes. So it looks like that’s about 4,300 students, because that’s how many are being enrolled.

“[The] purpose is to really catch students up in reading and writing in English language arts and math,” spokesperson Alex Barrios said. Additionally, he said: “We want to make sure when they come back in the fall, they are ready for their coursework.”
