Walker Hayes is currently working on a song dedicated to his late daughter, Oakleigh Klover Hayes.

The singer and his wife, Laney, lost their newborn daughter in June due to medical complications during the birthing process. Laney’s uterus ruptured, which resulted in internal hemorrhaging. The damage was bad enough that Laney’s life was also in danger. However, she has thankfully since recovered.

Understandably, the Hayes family still feels the loss of the baby. Hayes is currently working on a song about Oakleigh. “It’s not the easiest thing to write about,” he told Taste of Country, “but I feel like I would waste a lot of what I can share with people by not tackling that.”

The singer continued to share a draft of some lyrics he’s already written:

People keep asking me if I’ve written a song about you / I just say maybe one day, but really I don’t know how to / Cause it’s just picking out your spot at the cemetery / There’s nowhere beautiful enough to bury my little girl.”
