If you want a fun hike in Northern California with some interesting company, try Sonora! More specifically, try Potato Ranch. The ranch is one of a few in the region that offers a rent a llama service.

Greg Harford runs Potato Ranch and says the pack llamas offer “easy handling, easy to load up and durable.” In fact, you can take them on a test run if you are unsure about renting one.

And the cost isn’t too bad, either. It’s $95 a day to rent a llama which can carry around 65 pounds of equipment according. Plus, you also get a trailer and a course in handling according to ABC 10.

“The training is mainly for the people,” Hartford says. “The llamas are very smart. They do most of the work.”
