West Sacramento Police are typically underpaid by around 17% compared to the rest of the regional police departments in the Greater Sacramento area. Personally I’ve heard many stories where the best police officers rarely stay in West Sacramento because they’re getting shafted in their pay. Which means West Sac is desperate for good quality cops. The city council approved a bill increasing sales tax from 8 percent to 8.25 percent in order to have the funds to pay West Sacramento Police more. The increase is expected to raise approximately $3.4 million annually. The sales tax would increase on April 1, 2019 if approved by voters.
