During a high speed chase an Auburn police officer lost control of his car and crashed into a retaining wall. The car burst into flames with the officer trapped inside. He couldn’t get the door open. Jacob Estrabrook was nearby. He heard the loud bang of the crash, saw the patrol car surrounded by fired and ran over to help. “It was just instinct. I wanted to help him,” said Jacob. Estrabrook was able to get the officer out of the car. “He’s a human being,” said Jacob. “I just had to make sure he was okay.” The officer was taken to a nearby hospital, treated, and is now at home recovering.

Auburn Police Chief Ryan Kinnan declared Jacob a hero. “He just did it because he’s human. He did it because it’s the right thing to do. You know the world is a good place when you have people like Jacob.”

The high speed chase was caused by a driver who ran a red light and refused to pull over. That driver was later caught, arrested and is facing among other things DUI charges.
