You Can Now Get Real Gold Flakes In Fried Chicken [PIC]

Popeyes release some gold-covered chicken wings for one day only, and they were literally coated with 24-karat gold, and sold for the regular $5 price.

I’m not sure what the gold is worth, but they’re still only charging $5 for the golden-flake chicken. It’s happening at Popeyes, and it’s real 24-karat gold.

Food trends have been weird. Pink, unicorn, and now gold. What’s coming out next, I want to jump on that train. Anyway, the fried chicken comes in wing form, and is “peppered” with 24-karat gold flakes. Seriously, you can see the sparkle and glitter on the chicken, and they say it’s real, too. Only one catch – it happened yesterday, and only in four of their locations. New York, Anaheim, New Orleans, and Elizabeth (New Jersey). It was a 6-piece meal, and came with a biscuit and another side, plus a honey-dip.

Except for the gold and honey sauce (which also had gold flakes, btw), there was nothing special about the wings. They tasted like any other regular Popeyes wing, say people who tried them out. “Pretty sure it’s literally just spicy nuggets with gold on them… I liked the honey, though,” says one taste-tester. Another says they were “shockingly good.” The gold offers no taste benefit, and is also apparently totally safe for digestion. I bet it just comes out later, and you KNOW people will be talking about that today for sure. See some more info on the wings here, and you too can ask yourself, “why?
