Carly Pearce Spills Some Major CMA Tea With Pat, Tom and Cody

Her call to wish Pat a happy birthday quickly took a backseat in light of her news

Pat, the moment he heard Carly Pearce’s news

Carly Pearce called our show on Wednesday morning, 11/11, to surprise Pat on his birthday. The plan was to have her just sing him happy birthday, and then he’d have to figure out who it was.

But, as luck would have it, she wasn’t able to do the song because just as she was calling in, she found out she and Lee Brice had just won a CMA for Musical Event of The Year for I Hope You’re Happy Now.

That she was shocked is an understatement. And understandably so: she won in a very tough category that also included Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber’s gigantic smash 10,000 Hours. She is also coming off a tough year in which she recently her announced her divorce from Michael Ray. Plus, earlier this week, she found out, along with the rest of us, that Brice, who was scheduled to sing Hope You’re Happy Now with her on the CMAs, wouldn’t be able to do it because he tested positive for Covid. Instead, Charles Kelley of Lady A will be filling in which, as substitutes go, isn’t bad.

But still.

So, if a birthday wish was going to get derailed, this was the sweetest way for it to happen and we loved being able to share in her incredibly special moment.

By the way, you can also see the call from her side this morning – just click here.

Here’s how it happened in the studio!
