Johnny Cash may have passed, but his words and music live with us forever.

According to Taste of Country, this sentiment appears to be the theme of a new album about the singer.

Johnny Cash: Forever Words is an upcoming album that will feature Cash’s unreleased poems and letters set to music. Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, is helping produce the project, and he went through many of his father’s handwritten work from throughout his life.

After compiling what he needed, Carter Cash began reaching out to artists that felt inspiration from Cash’s music. They in turn reinterpreted Cash’s written work into brand new songs.

During production of the album, Carter Cash gave a statement, saying:

“Determining the artist for each song was truly a matter of the heart. I picked the artists who are most connected with my father, who had a personal story that was connected with Dad. It became an exciting endeavor to go through these works, to put them together and present them to different people who could finish them in a way that I believed that Dad would have wanted.”

The album is going to feature country musicians like Brad Paisley, Willie Nelson, Ruston Kelly, and Kacey Musgraves. It will also feature artists from other genres, like the late Chris Cornell, Elvis Costello, and John Mellencamp.

While we are sad we won’t get to hear Johnny Cash’s voice on the record, we still think the whole idea is amazing. The album will be available on April 6th, so make sure to mark your calendar!
