Dad Gets Huge Tattoo Identical To Son’s Birthmark

Derek Prue, Sr knew that his son, Derek Prue, Jr looked a lot like him. At age 8 Derek has the same nose, same mannerisms, even the same temperament. But young Derek had one thing his dad didn’t have. A huge, red birthmark that covered half of his chest. When you’re an adult things like that tend to not bother you. Not the case when you’re only 8. Derek Jr insisted on wearing a shirt when he went swimming. The mark on his chest made him feel self confident and sometimes embarrassed.
“I knew he was self-conscious about it,” said Derek, Sr. “I saw how he was reacting and it made me want to do something about it.” So Derek Prue, Sr decided to get a tattoo. A replica of his son’s birthmark, covering most of his chest with the same reddish color. It was no small task. The tattoo took 30 hours of work over 8 weeks. What was his son’s reaction when he first saw it? Overwhelmed and happy! As Derek, Sr put it, “now it’s more than our names. We have the same marks for life.”
