Dan+Shay’s Dan Smyers Adopts 16 Year Old Shelter Dog: “This Tiny Pup Is Safe Now”

Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay is just a good guy. Whenever he’s asked about the duo’s success he showers Shay Mooney with praise. In a recent interview without hesitation he declared his favorite singer of all time is his partner Shay. Because Dan is such a talented producer, technical director, writer and singer this might seem like a deflection. In fact it’s just the way he’s built. And his humility and goodness doesn’t stop with his work life. Yesterday Dan and his wife adopted a dog from a local Nashville shelter. Not just any dog. Dan tweeted out a couple of pics of the tiny Chihuahua saying, “16 years old. emaciated. no teeth. all alone and terrified at the shelter. we weren’t going to let her live out the rest of her life like that. this tiny pup is safe now and finally getting to feel love (possibly for the first time). as always, please #adoptdontshop.” Not only does this show Dan’s heart, the way he phrased his tweet tells you all you need to know about him. He used the word “we.”
