Eric Church is officially back! He announced a new album set to release this year, but it was quite a tough journey to get there.
The deadly 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting took place just days after Church headlined. Like many, the event shook him to his core and affected his ability to write.
“I was a little lost for a while. I think, like a lot of people, I was in a little bit of a funk after something like that,” he told Rolling Stone Country, “I was still a little burned out. A little bit going through the motions. I think that’s part of what happened when I first went into the studio, is I still wasn’t quite ready to get there.”
The country star reached out to Ray Wylie Hubbard to help him find himself again, reports Sounds Like Nashville.
“That’s where ‘Desperate Man’ kind of came from,” he said. “I wrote that in the studio. I got a little bit desperate in there to just find an album, because it was not fu**ing happening.”
The song is the title track from Church’s upcoming album of the same name. The record is scheduled to release on October 5.
