I-5 Is Now Open But With Some Restrictions And Delays
By Admin on September 10, 2018
If you were trying to go north this weekend, you probably noticed that I-5 was not the way to do it. The interstate was closed between Redding and Mt. Shasta due to the Delta Fire. Yesterday, Caltrans said it would remain closed indefinitely. However, they have since lifted the closure.
UPDATE: I-5 between Redding and Mt. Shasta is OPEN. Travel is reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately 17 miles. Motorists are asked to drive with caution, obey all traffic control operations and be patient. Lengthy delay. FLAMMABLE VEHICLES ARE NOT ALLOWED.

There is a big stretch of Interstate 5 that is just one lane, so expect delays if traveling that way. Many semi-trucks and other cars were abandoned along the highway and some caught fire or melted. Evacuations for some areas in Shasta County are underway.
You can get more information including shelters at KCRA.
