Kylie Minogue recorded her latest album, Golden, in Nashville. While she embraced a bit of a country twang to her new sound, she rejected songs that steered too far from pop.

Kylie found that when she returned back “into the real world,” some of the songs were too country for her. She told Vogue Australia, “We did some songs in Nashville that were a step too far for me.”

The pop legend cherishes her time in Tennessee, however, as she learned a lot about songwriting. She said, “Having two weeks in Nashville, that changed so much for me.”

She especially loved that she was in the home state of one of her favorite artists, Dolly Parton:

“I actually bought a great T-shirt in Nashville that said: ‘What would Dolly do?’ Because my love for her just grows and grows really. I’ve met her once and my hands ended up around her waist. I don’t know why, I was so starstruck, I didn’t really know what I was doing. It was before seeing her perform at the Hollywood Bowl, and it was the first time I’d seen her live and it was like seeing the light.”
