Jane Fonda confirmed that the gears are turning on the 9 to 5 sequel film. She also revealed that she, Dolly Parton, and Lily Tomlin all plan to return for it.

Previously, the original cast expressed interest in reviving the 1980 comedy, but nothing was set in stone.

“My role is as an executive producer, and I’m working with the writers, with Lily, and talking to the writers,” Fonda said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “Right now, Dolly, Lily and I are all intending to be in it.”

The sequel will take on current issues in the workplace. “I’m sorry to say the situation is worse today,” Fonda added. “Today a lot of the workforce is hired by an outside company. Who do you talk to if you have a problem?”

If the rumors are still true, then Rashida Jones is teaming up with the original screenwriter, Patricia Resnick, to deliver the script. When asked about it earlier this year, Parton expressed deep interest in bringing an updated story to the big screen.

“All these years we’ve talked about doing a sequel to 9 to 5 and it never made any real sense until just recently,” Parton told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “We decided that we are going to do another one. We are trying to get the script and all that, everyone is very interested and we’ve all agreed that we’d love to do it if it’s right. I told them we better get after it or it’s going to be 95 instead of 9 to 5.”
