Lindsay Ell is preparing to release her cover of John Mayer’s ‘Continuum.’ She reproduced every song on the album in her own style.

Before starting her third studio album, The Project, Lindsay Ell recreated the entirety of John Mayer’s Continuum.

Sugarland’s Kristian Bush, Lindsay’s producer, gave her the assignment as a lesson in music production. So why Continuum? Because it’s Lindsay’s all-time favorite album. When Kristian first asked her to recreate the album, she initially didn’t get the point. She told Taste of Country:

“I didn’t really understand why, but I trust Kristian so much that I just did it sorta walking in with a blindfold.”

The biggest takeaway from this project for Lindsay was learning how to simplify. She was more accustomed to layering her sounds, whereas John only includes what’s necessary.

Although a lot of the cover album is Lindsay copying and learning as much as possible, she puts her own spin on it, as well. The Jimi Hendrix cover “Bold as Love” was the hardest song to reproduce because of the two-and-a-half minute guitar solo.

Lindsay revealed that she’s sent the files to Kristian’s engineer for mixing. It won’t be long before we get to hear the finished project!
