In 2012, Lionel Richie dropped Tuskegee, which featured some of the biggest names in country.
The album featured 13 songs, each one a reinterpretation of one of Richie’s most famous hits. Notable guests included Blake Shelton, Shania Twain, and Willie Nelson, just to name a few.
Now it looks like the legendary singer is ready to dive back in to country music!
“I’m about to make that move right now,” Richie told The Tennessean at the CMA Awards. “Because what’s happening is, they keep asking me over and over again … A lot of times, people try to make up something to make it happen. But I’m getting it from country radio: ‘When are you gonna do it?’ So let’s [not] play around. Keep your ears open. It’s gonna be something surprising.”

Though Richie and Luke Bryan have been friends for a while now, their bond is stronger than ever. The two currently feature as judges on American Idol together along with Katy Perry. It’s likely therefore fair to assume that they’re working closely with one another on this project, as well. Especially because Bryan is apparently trying to convince Richie to get a house in Nashville!
“I feel like I just live here,” the R&B star said. “The only thing Luke is trying to convince me of, he said, ‘You need a house down the street.’ And I said, ‘No, Luke, the town ain’t big enough for the two of us.'”
