Luke Bryan admitted that he loses sleep over some of his choices as judge on contestants of American Idol.

Turning down contestants is apparently harder than Luke thought it would be. Music-news.com reports he said on Good Morning America:

“We’re having a blast, but you don’t expect all the emotions. I mean, I have laid awake… worrying about, ‘Did I make the right decision?’ with some of these contestants. It’s so critical.”

Luke also shared that he’s learned to be a bit relentless when saying no to those who are clearly not making the cut:

“It’s a little out of my comfort zone to just pick people apart, you know, but you have to, it’s what you signed up for [as a judge]. I remember our first day on set… and when somebody doesn’t need to make it through, there’s no way around [it], you’ve got to say no. I’m like [worrying], ‘Oh god, I gotta tell ’em no…’ but then when you learn after 14-hour days of filming, you’re like, ‘No! It’s time to get the next person in!'”

The new season of American Idol airs on March 12 on ABC.
