Well this is a good sign for Alaro Craft Brewery! The new Sacramento brewery recently opened in midtown, in Rubicon’s old building. But they’ve been making waves already. In fact, they just won gold at the Great American Beer Festival for their Castillo IPA. According to the Sacramento Business Journal, this is the biggest beer event in America, with over 60,000 attendees.

California breweries raked in the most awards, including many from the area. Here’s all of the regional winners:

  • Alaro Craft Brewery (Sacramento): Gold medal for Castillo IPA, an English-style India pale ale
  • FiftyFifty Brewing – Production Facility (Truckee): Gold medal for Bananenhängematte, a German-style wheat ale
  • Sudwerk Brewing Co. (Davis): Silver medal for Märzen, an American-style amber lager
  • Three Mile Brewing Co. (Davis): Silver medal for Little Downtown Tom, a session India pale ale
  • Moonraker Brewing Co. – Production Facility (Auburn): Silver medal for Northern Lights, an imperial India Pale Ale
  • New Helvetia Brewing Co. (Sacramento): Silver medal for Mystery Airship 4.0: Temple Cascara Golden Ale, a coffee beer
  • Crooked Lane Brewing Co. (Auburn): Bronze medal for Veedels Bräu, a German-style Koelsch
  • FiftyFifty Brewing – Production Facility (Truckee): Bronze medal for I Did It All For The Cookie, a specialty beer
  • FiftyFifty Brewing Co. (Truckee): Bronze medal for Eclipse, a wood- and barrel-aged strong stout

I’ve only been to Crooked Lane Brewing Co. Guess I’ve got some work to do.
