San Francisco Area Beaches Closed After Massive Sewage Leak
By Admin on January 23, 2018
At least eight San Francisco area beaches are closed due to a sewage leak over the weekend. A leak at the Monterey One Water wastewater treatment facility was stopped on Saturday morning.
While the leak was stopped on Saturday, it’s not certain when it began. However, almost 4.4 million gallons of sewage leaked into the Pacific Ocean.
Apparently the leak was caused by an equipment failure, according to KCRA.
As a result, the following San Francisco area beaches are closed:
- Carmel Beach at Ocean Avenue
- Monterey Municipal Beach
- Lover’s Point
- Monterey State Beach
- San Carlos Beach
- Sunset Drive at Asilomar
- Spanish Bay
- Stillwater Cove
Because of the leak, the beaches above will be closed until the water levels are deemed safe.
