Grunting in the gym is single-handedly the most annoying thing someone can do while working out. Or is that just me? Either way, I need to get use to it. A new study says grunting can improve a workout, Newsweek reports. Of course, this applies mostly to weightlifting. So don’t be making noise next to me on the treadmill!

Research found grunting canĀ help you exert more physical force and relieve pressure from your back. However, there’s a downside. The mutter can be bad for your heart, considering it comes from holding your breath. That creates pressure in your chest that pushes on the aorta. Basically, you can grunt but remember to breathe.
