For years, its been the subject of rumor on social media for years and now, it’s been confirmed:

TRADER JOE’S IS HIDING STUFFED TOYS IN THEIR STORES FOR KIDS TO HUNT DOWN AND FIND!

We know, we know. Seems too good to be true–something to keep your kid distracted -errr-focused while you shop for grass fed beef and locally sourced brussel sprouts? But the fact is, it’s a fact.

Yet, even though this rumor was confirmed by a Trader Joe’s spokesperson to the national press, we still were skeptical. So Pat and I called up an old basketball friend of ours (who now, like us, actually is old but that’s beside the point). Fred Haelig was always a boss on the court but these days he’s a manager for Trader Joe’s, most recently at the Roseville location.

It’s true” he confirmed. How long has this been going on? Fred said he wasn’t quite sure but “at least ten years.”

Where and how the toys–which are usually stuffed animals–are hidden depends on the store and the staff.

It started out we’d put them just anywhere, but then kids would find them and carry them around the store, but they would get really dirty.”

So now, he says, look up!

What we learned was to put ’em up high, where the kids can’t reach ’em, they just point to it.” At the end of mommy or daddy’s shopping excursion, the child tells the clerk where they spotted the toy and they get a free lollipop or sticker.

If you STILL think this is some kind of middle earth myth, hear Fred talk about it himself with us. Just click below. IT’S TRUE. IT’S ALLLLL TRUE.

happy hunting!
