Big changes may be coming in the 2020 election. At least in Washington D.C. Local council member Charles Allen introduced a legislature that could lower the voting age to 16.
The March For Our Lives initiative inspired Allen to introduce the legislation. Seven of the 13 council members support it, reports HelloGiggles.
18-year-old high school senior Alisha Chopra said:
“I think people are getting excited about this, especially with what’s going on in the nation right now in terms of youth leading social change. So I think that people are going to be very excited about it and want to get on board.”

To put this monumental legislation in context, the last time the voting age was lowered in the United States was in 1971. Students at that time argued if 18 was old enough to be drafted, then it was old enough to vote.
There will be a public hearing in June and an official vote on legislation before the end of the year.
