Bianca Rivera made sure she was careful. She wore a mask all of the time. Everyone in her house had Covid except her. Like many Covid patients her mom, dad and sister had lost their sense of smell. Thankfully Bianca still had hers. “I started smelling burnt plastic…and ran outside of my room and I couldn’t even pass the hallway because it was filled with so much smoke,” said Bianca. The house was on fire and she was the only one who knew it. She was the only one who could smell the smoke. Despite the house quickly filling with smoke Bianca ran room to room waking her family and helping evacuate them to safety. “It was just protecting my family. It didn’t matter to me if I was going to get hurt or I was going to get burned. As long as I got them out safe and sound, I was going to be fine.”

Firefighters arrived at the Waco, Texas home at 3am however by the time they got there the house was gone. Bianca’s family got out just in time taking with them only the clothes they were wearing. Right now Bianca and her family are living in a motel. People in Waco have started a GoFundMe page to help them replace, well, everything. If you’d like to donate head here
