The lines at the California DMV have gotten so out of hand, that certain locations are trying something new. 13 locations are offering YoGov, a service where you pay someone else to wait in line for you. Sadly, none of the locations offering the concierge service are in the Sacramento area. But, perhaps if it remains popular it will expand.

Currently the service is available at the following locations, according to KRON:

  • San Francisco
  • Daly City
  • San Mateo
  • Redwood City
  • Oakland Claremont
  • Oakland Coliseum
  • Santa Clara
  • San Jose
  • El Cerrito
  • Fremont
  • Hayward
  • Santa Teresa
  • Los Gatos

Of course, you probably want to know how much it costs to have someone wait in line for you at the DMV. It is $25 an hour, with a minimum of an hour and a half and a maximum wait of four hours. Although, with YoGov you do have to show up to the midpoint service to get your number. So, it seems like you can’t go too far from the DMV and need to be available throughout the wait.

Currently, YoGov is booked at the bigger California DMV locations through October. And even further for appointments to get Real IDs. So yeah, it seems cool. But to me, it doesn’t sound worth the price since you still have to stick around.
