Starbucks Planning To Stop Accepting Cash In The Near Future

“That time is nearer than you think,” Howard Schultz said. He was talking about Starbucks only accepting credit cards or payment through app.

So far it seems like the coffee chain is only piloting the program in Seattle and bigger stores. According to Food, Drink & Franchise, mobile payments made up 36% of Starbucks’ total US transactions in its third-quarter in 2017, a figure that will likely continue to increase.

Additionally, Starbucks isn’t notifying customers through signage. But rather, they are just letting them know in the store when they order. Because that won’t anger people—waiting in line just to find out you can’t get your drink or protein box.

There’s no word on when, and if, the cashless payments will spread to other stores.
