This week brought bad news for couples who planned to have their wedding at The Falls Event Center in Roseville and Elk Grove. The venue, with at least three other locations in the nation, is entangled in a federal lawsuit.

The Falls Event Center Involved In Federal Lawsuit

The Elk Grove location is set to be sold to the highest bidder at the end of May. Sacramento Business Journal reports that the facility has an unpaid construction loan totaling $8 million.

Additionally, The Falls Event Center owes Sacramento County nearly $80,000 in back taxes, according to the Sacramento Bee.

CEO Steven Down told investors the event centers were way profitable than they were. Down raised more than $120 million from 300 investors.

Also, Down was involved in a huge pyramid scheme two decades ago in Utah. Although he never said he was guilty, he did reportedly accepted the judgment.

Now couples and other parties with deposits on both local locations of The Falls Event Center are understandably worried. They’ve already put deposits down on the venues and aren’t sure what will happen with them.

Hopefully people are able to still hold their event at either location. Or, at the very least, they get their money back. Because deposits on a venue can be a big chunk of change.
