The best story in baseball just got better.  Yesterday the Oakland A’s hosted children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The kids got to hang out in the locker room, walk on the field, play catch, and meet the players.

Khris Davis, the A’s best hitter, spent a lot of time with the kids.  One boy in particular caught Davis’ attention.  Ten year old Anthony Slocumb.  Anthony has a rare cancer called Langerhans cell histiocytosis.  Despite being in remission he has a hard time moving.

According to mlb.com Slocumb told Davis that he was his favorite player and he was there to watch Khris play.  Davis was so moved by Anthony that he asked him if he’d sign his jersey.  Anthony broke into a huge grin and grabbed a blue sharpie.  The ten year old printed both his first and last name very plainly and big on Davis’ white jersey.

In the third inning Davis strode to the plate and on the first pitch crushed his 37th home run of the season.

Davis said he thought about Anthony the entire time he was running around the bases.  “I wanted him to know I was thinking about him.”

And what was Anthony thinking?  “I hope I get to come tomorrow!”

Here’s the moment Davis hit his home run for Anthony:
