Lindsay Ell worked hard to create The Continuum Project in honor of her favorite record. She didn’t think she’d talk to John Mayer himself about it, but fate has a funny way of coming around.

While Ell was eating at a steakhouse in West Hollywood, she happened to notice a familiar face a few tables down.

“Out of all of the restaurants in Los Angeles,” Ell said PEOPLE, “John Mayer happens to be three tables away from me.”

Gathering her courage, she chose a good window to approach him and introduce herself.

“I was just like, ‘Hey, John, I’m Lindsay. I recorded Continuum,'” she recalled. “He said, ‘I can’t wait to hear it. I’m honored. Honestly, thank you.'”

Humbled, Ell responded: “Please don’t judge my guitar tones.”

If you haven’t heard The Continuum Project yet, it’s available to purchase on her website HERE.
