The town of Cohoes, New York recently went up in flames, and it’s all because one resident watched a reality show…

According to Inside Edition, 51-year-old John Gomes was watching Forged In Fire, a TV show where contestants make swords out of hot metal, and decided to try his own hand at the dangerous craft.

Using a large metal barrel, Gomes started a fire that eventually spread to a nearby building. From there, strong winds blew embers across the town and engulfed it in flames.

18 families are now homeless, and many business were also destroyed in the blaze.
