In what appears to be a way forward to artists getting themselves back in front of audiences during the Covid pandemic, Blake Shelton has announced that, like Garth Brooks, he too will soon be on a drive-in screen near you.

Blake Tweeted early Wednesday morning, “Can’t wait for July 25th… we’ve got an exclusive Encore Drive-In show at drive-in theaters across North America with special guests Gwen Stefani and Trace Adkins. Tickets go on sale 7/14 at noon local time“.

The tickets will be $114.99 per vehicle (up to six people per vehicle) and will be sold via Ticketmaster but going to the website early provides no additional information. However, Variety says “Shelton’s show is being touted as the first in a series of concert films…that will deliver a front-row look at the world’s most iconic recording artists“. Variety also says that unlike the Brooks show (also an Encore Drive-In event), which was a taped “concert” performance he and the band did on an empty soundstage, the upcoming shows will be more documentary style, with performances divided up by “cinematic interviews and storytelling“.

Live Nation is also experimenting with drive-in type concert experiences; this weekend they will feature live performances in 3 different cities – Nashville, Indianapolis and St. Louis- with Brad Paisley and Jon Pardi, among others. Unlike the Encore events, the Live Nation events will actually be live concerts held in the parking lots of Live Nation venues. Jon Pardi told us recently that this could also be a way forward for artists to begin doing shows again.

No word yet whether the West Wind Drive-In in Rancho Cordova will be part of the screening but, since it was a part of the Garth event, it’s probably a safe bet to think they would be.

We of course will keep you updated on our website and on the air.
