Blake Shelton invited 8-year-old cancer patient Sammy Hodgett to be his guest at his show at Moline, Illinois at the TaxSlayer Center on Feb. 23.
Hodgett was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was only five and underwent chemotherapy, which required him to be under a medically induced coma for nearly six weeks. Blake Shelton’s music was what helped him get through the recovery afterwards, reports CMT.
The boy’s parents started a campaign on Facebook in hopes that he might be able to meet his favorite performer:
“I know he’s just this little boy, and I know so many children have so many issues, but it would just be amazing, he would never forget it.”
Hey Sammy!!! I can’t wait to meet you buddy!! https://t.co/qyD2GbzJMq

Hodgett’s mom said:
“It’s crazy, I just can’t even believe it and, you know, he’s this big star and you feel like they don’t always have time to look at that kind of thing.”
