There are few things nicer than getting pizza from your favorite spot. However, when a terminally ill man named Rich Morgan moved away from this Michigan pizzeria, they surprised him with an epic pizza delivery!
Steve’s Pizza In Battle Creek, Michigan
According to Fox News, couple Julia and Rich Morgan used to live in Battle Creek, Michigan 25 years ago. While living there, Rich would bring home a pizza from Steve’s Pizza every week on payday.
Although the couple eventually moved to Indiana, they never forgot Steve’s Pizza. In fact, they were even planning a trip to go back and grab another slice. Unfortunately, life had other plans…

After a trip to the emergency room revealed devastating news, Rich Morgan now stays at home with hospice care while fighting terminal cancer. With the couple was now stuck at home, Julie’s dad decided to see what he could do. He contacted Steve’s Pizza to ask if they could send a card to cheer the two up. The restaurant’s manager, Dalton Shaffer, however, had an even better idea.
A 225 Mile Epic Pizza Delivery
Rather than send just a card, Shaffer decided nothing could beat actually sending a pizza. After learning the couple’s favorite toppings, he promised to make a special delivery. Despite Steve’s Pizza not actually offering a delivery service, Shaffer set out for Indiana with two perfect pizzas after closing the restaurant for the night.
At roughly 10 p.m., Dalton Shaffer began the 225 mile drive to the Morgan’s house. Julie Morgan explained what happened in a Facebook post, saying:
“And so, while Rich and I slept, at 2:30 a.m., Dalton rolled into our driveway, left the car running and delivered two extra special pizzas to my waiting family. He told them we were in his prayers, and offered to help in any way he could.”
Although the grateful couple offered to put Shaffer up in a hotel after his long drive, the 18-year-old refused. In fact, he immediately left so he could make it back to work on time for his next shift. He also hadn’t told and wasn’t planning on telling anyone about his heartwarming delivery. He explained the situation to Battle Creek Enquirer, saying:
“I just wanted to do that for them. I just wanted to make them happy. I just hope people could keep that family in mind and pray for them.”
A Heartwarming Moment
All in all, Shaffer traveled around 450 miles total on this epic pizza delivery and the hard work was definitely appreciated. Julie Morgan explained in her Facebook post:
“I am beyond overwhelmed by this act of genuine kindness. Dalton brought our family so much joy – and the best pizza in the world – at a really difficult time. While ‘thank you’ hardly seems adequate – from the bottom of my heart, thank you, Dalton from Steve’s Pizza in Battle Creek, MI for making your epic middle of the night pizza delivery!”
