We all know that Jennifer Lawrence is an academy award-winning actress and A-list celebrity, but did you also know that she’s a middle school dropout?
According to E! News, the star opened up in a recent interview about her time growing up and how she got into acting.
While talking with 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker, Lawrence explained:
“I dropped out of middle school. I don’t technically have a GED or a diploma.”
When Whitaker asked if she had any regrets about the decision, the actress replied:
“No. I really don’t… I found what I wanted to do, and I didn’t want anything getting in the way of it. Even friends, for many years, were not as important to me as my career. I mean, from the age of 14.”

School was not the easiest thing for the star, but she knew from a young age that acting was. She explained:
“I struggled through school. I never felt very smart. And when I’m reading the script and I feel like I know exactly what it would look like if somebody felt that way, that was the whole part of my brain that I didn’t even know existed—something that I could be confident in and I didn’t want to let it go.”
And although her parents were (understandably) not happy to hear that she wanted to drop out, they eventually agreed to let her follow her dreams. The actress described the situation, saying:
“It was just an overwhelming feeling of ‘I get this. This is what I was meant to do. And to get people to try to understand that, when you’re 14 years old wanting to drop out of school and do this, and your parents are just like ‘You’re out of your mind.'”
While it might have looked crazy at the time, dropping out of middle school really appears to have worked out well for Jennifer Lawrence.
