The United States Postal Service just announced that they’re releasing some first-ever “scratch and sniff” stamps in a few different scents.

Look forward to getting mail again with the all new scratch ‘n sniff stamps! The USPS announced them for the first time, and they’re coming out June 20th. They’re being called “the sweet scent of summer,” and will come in 10 styles (in a booklet of 20 stamps). The artwork is done in watercolor style, and the art is designed by an artist in Santa Monica (Margaret Berg).
What scents are going to be offered? They have variations of “kiwi, orange, chocolate, blueberry, strawberry and cola.” We’re not sure if more will come after that, but that’s at least what they’re starting with. The USPS says “Americans love cool, refreshing ice pops on a hot summer day.” I mean, that’s not a lie, really, although those ice pop sleeves keep cutting the corners of my mouth. That’s another story anyway. They’re all scratch and sniff, so expect your mail box to smell like a box of scented Crayolas.
You can pre-order the stamps and you’ll get them in the mail “shortly after the June 20 issuance.” Again, you’ll get 20 stamps per booklet in 10 different styles. I can think of a couple other “prank” scents, now that we’re on the topic of scented stamps. Particularly the kind that go to the IRS and other bills. Ahem. Check out some more info about the scented stamps here. Do you care about scented stamps? Are they something that you’d try out, just for the novelty? Do you think these will be collectable in a few years?
