The Face App that Ages You Is Giving Your Photos to Russians

Well that didn’t take long for everyone to freak out about what the age challenge is doing.

If you weren’t aware of this challenge, you had to download a specific app called FaceApp in order to do it. The FaceApp then turns your face and shows you what you may look like in 5, 10, or even 20 years. Everyone has been having fun with it, especially with the hashtag #AgeChallenge

Well turns out this might be an issue because FaceApp was created by developers at Wireless Lab based in St. Petersburg, Russia and is one of the most downloaded apps in the world.

What this essentially means is that all the photos you put in the FaceApp belong to Russians.

The terms state “You grant FaceApp a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform and display your User Content and any name, username or likeness provided in connection with your User Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed, without compensation to you.”

Even if you uninstall the app, the company can still use your photos. What makes FaceApp different from other photo editors is that it uploads your photo to the cloud, where it is edited before being downloaded back to your phone.
