I guess it’s a good thing I already am too nervous to fly my dogs anywhere. Because Little can’t even get onto a United Airlines flight due to their new policy. In fact, many breeds are now banned. And only cats and dogs are allowed on board flights starting in June.

Last month, United Airlines was in the news multiple times for pet-related issues. Because multiple animals passed away and one some were sent to the wrong places, it looks like they are re-evaluating their policy. So, beginning in June they are implementing changes to their PetSafe program.

United says that it’s for the safety of the pets, which I hope is true. I am tired of pit bull type dogs being banned simply because of the stigma associated with them. However, as a pibble momma, I can attest to the fact that some can have trouble in heat because of their smooshy faces.

United Airlines PetSafe Policy Bans Certain Breeds

But, pit bulls aren’t the only ones banned. Dogs not allowed as part of the new PetSafe policy include:

  • American Pit Bull Terrier/Pit Bull
  • American Staffordshire Terrier/”Amstaff”
  • Belgian Malinois
  • Boston Terrier
  • Boxer
  • Brussels Griffon
  • Bulldog
  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
  • Chow Chow
  • Lhasa Apso
  • Mastiff
  • Pekingese
  • Pug
  • Shar-Pei/Chinese Shar-Pei
  • Shih-Tzu

And those aren’t the only ones banned. So, if you want to see the full list, which includes cat breeds too, go to United’s website. I am not sure if some of these breeds were already banned. But, they are now.

What do you think of the updated policy?
