There are terrible bosses, and then there are completely heartless ones that will fire you at a moment’s notice. A Michigan mom named Crystal Fisher recently discovered her boss was the heartless type when she underwent a family crisis…
According to Fox 17, Crystal rushed her son to the emergency room Thursday morning. He was suffering from a 104 degree fever and his oxygen was low, and the stressful situation was causing Crystal to have panic attacks.
Crystal Fisher works at P.S. Food Mart, and she had her daughter call her boss to ask for a shift cover. Crystal explained:
“She said ‘can you have somebody cover mom for [Friday], my brother’s really sick, they’re going to have to ventilate him.’ And the boss, I could hear her over the phone and she told my daughter ‘this ain’t the way we run things, you’re mother needs to be the one calling me.’”
While surprised at the way her boss reacted, she decided to continue focusing on her son. However, his health to a turn for the worse later in the day. The doctor explained that her son’s fever was not breaking and he needed additional help. Crystal described the situation, saying:
“He came in and told me that they were going to have to tube him and transport him to [University of Michigan]. I lost it. That’s my kid.”
After arriving at the second hospital, staff prevented her from seeing her son until one doctor came to explain the situation. Crystal revealed:
“Then a doctor finally came out and took me into a private room and said that they had to ventilate my son, that he is on life support. All they knew is he had an infection somewhere.”

As she’d already lost her husband back in 2015, Crystal was fearing the absolute worst. Unfortunately, she still needed to get in contact with her boss over coming into work. So, she sent a message explaining the situation. She explained:
“I text her Saturday and said ‘hey just letting you know that I’m not going to be able to come to work until further notice at least until he’s off life support.’ She automatically came back with oh so you’re letting me know you’re quitting.”
Her manager’s response shocked Crystal, and their conversation only got worse the longer it went on. In anger, she shared their text exchange on Facebook, and it got 25,000 shares within a day.
Thankfully, people in the corporate office for P.S. Food Mart, called Folk Oil, were some of the many to see the texts. They reached out to Crystal to let her know that not only was her job safe, but her boss was actually the one that’s going to be hunting for a new one.
Now, Crystal Fisher can focus solely on her son’s recovery. She explained:
“My concern is when my son does wake up and when he does open his eyes, he sees mommy there.”
We wish her and her son the best as he works toward good health again.
